Department "Electric power engineering"
on the first steps towards training high-level specialists in the country’s energy sector
At the Eurasian National University named after L. N. Gumilyov opened the Department of Electrical Power Engineering in 2023, which also occupies a separate place in the specialty of the same name and is taking its first steps in the field of education.
The development of countries has a very close connection with the production and use of energy. Here, energy primarily refers to electricity, since it can be converted into some form of energy, and many modern manufacturing and information technologies operate directly using electrical current.
There are two main problems in the electric power industry: the first is the production of electricity, the second is the transportation and optimal distribution of electricity to consumers. The implementation of these two directions in practice will ensure the country's energy security and increase its production in subsequent years.
Currently, the department trains specialists in educational programs “Electrical Power Engineering” at bachelor’s and master’s degrees. At the department, doctors and candidates of sciences, PhDs and masters from Kazakhstan, Russia, China and Japan give lectures, conduct practical and laboratory classes for students.
More than 300 students are studying at the department in the 1st-4th year of the specialty “Electrical Power Engineering”. Every year the number of applicants who choose this profession is growing.
Currently, agreements have been concluded for industrial and pre-graduate internships with the following organizations:
1) Astana-REK;
2) Akmola Regional Energy Commission;
3) Astana Electrotechnical Plant;
4) Astana-Energy;
5) LLP "NAT Group-PV".
