The Department of Standardization and Certification of the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University was established on the basis of the Department of Lifting, Transport, Construction and Road Machinery on May 4, 2002. In 2019, the Department of Standardization and Certification was renamed the Department of Standardization, Certification and Metrology.
Over the years, more than 1,000 bachelors of Engineering and Technology and more than 300 Masters of Technical Sciences have been trained.
The department conducts training:
Bachelor's degree in the direction 6B075 – "Standardization, certification and metrology (by industry)" (Educational programs: 6B07532 "Standardization and certification" (by industry) and 6B07550 "Metrology" (by industry));
masters in 7M075 – "Standardization, certification and Metrology (by industry)" (Educational programs: 7M07532 "Standardization and Certification" (by industry) and 7M07550 "Metrology" (by industry). 7M07551 – "Metrological support of innovative technologies" (specialized master's degree).
Organizations, enterprises related to standardization, certification and metrology, such as the Committee for Technical Regulation and Metrology of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan (KTRM MTI RK), the National Center for Expertise and Certification;, JSC "National Company "Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary", the National Center for Accreditation (NCA), JSC "Locomotive Kurastyru Zauyty", LLP "ABVA Laboratory", LLP "Astana Kurylys Service", NC "Kazakhstan Engineering", LLP "Republican Center for Certification of Management Systems", RSE "Kazakhstan Institute of Standardization and Metrology", LLP "Shart-2006", ABK –Laboratory LLP, etc.
Graduates of the department today head leading organizations in the field of technical regulation and metrology, form the core of RSE "KazStandart", the Committee for Technical Regulation and Metrology of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The past twenty years have been the years of development of the university, faculty and department. Naturally, there were different times, and changes in the life of our society led to fundamental changes in the organization of higher education. All the radical changes in the life of the department took place in the spirit of the times.
Today, the work at the department has been debugged in all directions thanks to the tireless work of the members of the department. Over the two decades of its existence, the department has gained extensive experience in scientific, theoretical and educational work, its own traditions. The department is, first of all, the teachers who make up its staff. The department has developed its own image and moral and psychological climate, on which the
fruitfulness of the work of its members largely depends.
The department is staffed with highly qualified personnel in the fields of standardization, certification, quality management, qualimetry, metrology, statistical methods, and testing. The department consists of:
- Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor B. U. Baykhozhaeva;
- Candidates of Technical Sciences - Kirgizbaeva K.Zh., Ermakhanova F.R., Khaimuldinova A. K., Abseitov E.T., Bekturganova G.K., Kilibaev E.O., Bekturganova G.K.. PhD Kubenova M.M.;
- senior teachers – Karshalova D.G., Dzhaksymbetova M.A., Dzhumadilova N.M., lecturer – Akhmet A.A. - visiting professors – Professor from the University of Lisbon (Portugal) Pedro M.B. Silva Girao, Professor Ahmet Shihu Avak.
- representatives of the production – PhD Aimagambetova R.Zh., Daribayeva A.A., Abayuly B., etc.
Among the staff of the department: authors of articles in cited journals with an impact factor, developers of national standards and regulatory documents, authors of textbooks and textbooks with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, electronic manuals, authors of copyright certificates and patents of the Republic of Kazakhstan, members of the editorial board of domestic and foreign journals.
The teachers of the department have completed advanced training at leading universities in Russia, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Germany, as well as in the Committee for Technical Regulation of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, LLP "Republican Academy for Technical Regulation, Standardization, Certification and Metrology", etc.
The department pays great attention to the quality of training of specialists, practical skills of their professional activity. A significant amount of classroom training is conducted in the laboratories of the department and branches.
Laboratory classes in special disciplines are held on the basis of branches. The management of the research practice is carried out by the staff of the branches of the department. The management of the branches is involved as members of the State Attestation Commission, reviewers of theses. Leading specialists of the branches conduct seminars and lectures for students in special disciplines. The employees of the branches participate in the development of the OP, methodological guidelines for the performance of laboratory work.
Academic mobility is actively developing (South Korea, Poland, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, etc.)
One of the strategic tasks facing ENU is to involve students in research activities. The maximum development of students' creative and research potential, the creation of conditions for research work, international scientific cooperation of students, the creation of a network of student scientific departments are the main priorities of the ENU Research Institute. One of the types of divisions are scientific circles in departments. The department has a scientific circle "Thermophysical measurement methods". Since this year, the student scientific society "Sapa" has been operating at the department.
The department carries out research projects funded by grants, as well as the implementation of commercial contracts and contracts.

The area of activity of the established technical committee for standardization: standards in the field of education and training, including distance education, online advanced training courses, self-education courses, courses outside formal education, the use of information technology in education, including for people with disabilities, unification of requirements for electronic textbooks, assessment of the level of knowledge of students, certification of personnel in the e-learning process, prevention of psychoemotional risks in educational organizations. Terminology, classifiers, dictionaries for e-learning purposes.
The main objects of the TC are services, management systems, assessments, terminology, ethical behavior, facilitators in the field of education, etc.
The Department of Standardization, Certification and Metrology of the Faculty of Transport and Energy, strengthening its professional status, strives to keep up with the times in everything in the context of the tasks facing a sovereign state.
I would like to note that the strategic directions of the department's development in the long term are to achieve the highest possible quality of student training, including in the context of the digital transformation of the economy, to become one of the leading research centers, further cooperation with KTRM MIT RK, RSE Kazstandart and our other partners, leading educational organizations of the near and far abroad.
